Kevin Witte (Phoenix/AZ) the only player in field "in red numbers", captures prestigious Willie Low Invitational.
Phoenix Country Club - 40th Anniversary Willie Low Invitational Results - Junior Golf Association of Arizona
Started in 1969, the event has showcased the talents of junior golfers from across the state. Past winners have included two-time champion and current PGA TOUR golfer Billy Mayfair, Howard Twitty, George Boutell, along with Ted Purdy.
Witte stated he was very proud to have his name on the trophy with some of the best ever in the southwest. Kevin, the senior Captain of the powerful Desert Vista HS Golf team, is looking forward to college golf and is semi-commited to the nationally ranked Mesa CC (Az) Thunderbird Team. "Yeah I didn't realize till recently that we have 3 colleges ranked in the top-10 in the nation, right here in Phoenix, I'm looking forward to the competition. MCC has a great program and Coach John Guerrero is a great player and a cool guy, so I think that'll be a pretty sweet situation."
"Phoenix Country Club has an extremely strong junior golf program whose roots were developed by Willie Low. Willie had a sincere desire to teach the youth of the Valley and his love of the game was clearly infectious and showed in everything he did around this great golf course," said Adam Brigham, Head Golf Professional at Phoenix Country Club.
"Willie Low meant so much to the game of golf, especially here in Arizona, that the golf tournament that bears his name will continue to provide a lasting legacy to him. I know he would be proud of the quality of golf that has been displayed on his home course year in and year out. I think it’s also vitally important for all of our juniors to realize what Willie meant to the game and the work he accomplished in and around the sport and the wonderful opportunities he created for many of Arizona’s junior players," said Sean Ferris, Assistant Executive Director of the Junior Golf Association of Arizona.

Kevin Witte (Phoenix/AZ) fired 78-75 battling to a 4th Place Finish (16-19 group) at the Desert Junior Golf Tour event held at the Whirlwind Golf Club at Wildhorse Pass. This was a top 10 finish for all combined groups tieing for 10th Place with Trey Kaahanui (Tempe/AZ).
The WHIRLWIND - DEVILS CLAW golf course (designed by Gary Panks) was a formidable challenge with the cold, breezy conditions, 1 hour frost delay, and tabletop fast greens.

A recent Gateway Tour event held on this course, (same Black tees) yielded 1st and 2nd round scoring averages of 68.3 and 71.5 respectively, during the warmer summer conditions.

Witte said after the round, "I really didn't hit the ball as well as I would have liked to, it was one of those weekends were you just had to carve out the best score you could with less than your best stuff. I'll get with my coach, work out the wrinkles and look forward to getting after it in the next tournament!". When asked if he had any fun given the conditions this weekend, Witte replied, "Oh heck yes, I love this golf course! It was really nice of Whirlwind to host us here this week, it's always fun to play such a sweet golf course!"
