DV Boys take 2nd in Thunder golf invitational.
Now they know what they’re up against.
Desert Vista High School’s boys golf team shot a 472 to finish second to Phoenix Brophy in the Thunder Invitational over 27 holes last weekend at the Tonto Verde Golf Club in Scottsdale.
Brophy, led by medalist David Lowe’s one-over 37-71-109, edged the host Thunder by seven shots (465-472).
The Thunder and Broncos will likely be matching strokes again in the state championship Nov. 8-9 at the Aguila Golf Course in Laveen. Chandler Hamilton is the two-time defending champion.
Desert Vista’s Kevin Witte (37-77-114) tied for fourth individually with Tempe McClintock’s Trey Kaahanui.
Phoenix Arcadia (473), McClintock (486), Tempe Corona del Sol (491), Chandler Basha (495), Mountain Pointe (515) and Tempe Marcos de Niza rounded out the field in the first invitational tournament hosted alone by Desert Vista.
Arcadia’s Connor Riley was second with 111 followed by McClintock’s Trent Kaahanui at 13.
Tyler Gaston (119), Andrew Michelson (121) and Erik Long-Goheen (125) turned in the top individual scores for Desert Vista. Zach Singer and D.J. Manzo combined for a 119.
Mountain Pointe was led by Colton Tuttle’s 20 followed by Conrad Isley (124), Mike Anderson (130) and Chris Felix and Ben Potter, who shot identical 145 rounds.
